for living in the training/riding/climbing/outdoor/high VO2/ backpacking/free tibet/trustafarian capital of the world, i am surprised by your laziness. it's awesome that danny summerhill and taylor phinney are on your january '08 cover. i agree 100% that they are indeed the future of american cycling. yet, how did you neglect to include junior national time trial AND road race champion ben king in the photograph?
as you may mention in the article, ben is an absolute phenom. (not to mention a well-mannered southern boy who knows how to conduct himself both on his new pro team and in the adult world) granted, no world championship medal, but the charlottesville native rode away from the entire tiaa-cref team in the national championship road race AND smoked the time trial...how could he not be pictured on your cover with his colleagues taylor and danny?is it because he doesn't live in the people's republic of colorado? instead, he resides in blacksburg, va where he is a freshman at virginia tech. it's no c.u. or fort lewis, but give the kid a break. refrain from purchasing a few wheatgrass smoothies at ideal market, save your pennies, and buy the boy a plane ticket for your next cover shoot. i am appalled at the fact that you penalize mr. king with geography. if i'm wrong, please tell me; i'm happy to be so.
yours truly,
mandy

VN won't be able to ignore Central VA and the Shenandoah Valley because pretty soon you won't be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a pro cyclist (or former pro). But then again, maybe we'll get lucky and they will continue to overlook this area and hopefully it won't turn into the "training/riding/climbing/outdoor/high VO2/ backpacking/free tibet/trustafarian capital of the east coast."
Have a Great Day.
Agreed. King will be crowned soon enough.
Good lookin out...
I had to cancel my Velo News subscription because I couldn’t take any more of the Colorado love going on there. It is ashamed it is such a biased magazine. It seems cycling today is all about press, and being in the right place at the right time. Ben deserves just as much press as those guys. Since there are friends I don’t think there are any hard feelings between them. Hopefully Ben will get support form the east coast scene and he will be able to use his talent to it’s full potential.
To Hell with Velonews, they're starting to approach Bicycling as far as cycling coverage goes. There is a whole lot of Colorado love going on in that mag, it's like the entire rest of the country doesn't exist, and that if you're going to be a good cyclist, you HAVE to live Colorado for some reason. I just don't get it. I'll take NC every day of the week over Colorado, well, not for skiing, but for riding, yes.
