tonight we raced in downtown beaufort, sc. pronounced byugh-fort, and not bow-fort, like the eponymous town in in north carolina. semantics, semantics. argh.
the race was wicked wicked wicked fast. and so much fun. all the big teams were there. the southeast crit series is just incredible. i was last through the first turn (re-named "a quick way to die if you hit the brakes" by me mid-race) because it takes me seven years to get into my pedals. it's days like this that i miss my crank brothers eggbeaters.
anyway, the race was one of the fastest, hottest, and most fun i've ever done. the town turned out to watch, despite the massive traffic snafu resulting from a mishap between a construction crane, a barge, and a bridge. it took us 1/2 hour to go 1 mile en route to the race. we were about to beach the volvo on a curb by a cemetary and ride to the damn race. but we were patient and arrived and in time to get our "pro" on.
i even got two primes! the corners were stupid-fast but scary, but you could do the entire course without hitting the brakes. that is, if you are a cyclo-cross junkie. some wussy girls had to use their brakes, so i would just pass them before the next corner, and do it my own way (sans brakes).
on another note, i have found one of my favorite cartoon characters personified in a bottle of water.
meet pom pom

"Mandy Lozano (TargetTraining) turned the evening's fastest lap time (2:05) until Tina Pic responded to the last-minute effort of a very dominant Team Cheerwine and crossed the line in first place a full seven seconds faster." - Velonews on Walterboro
